The regional newspaper Le Courrier de Saône-et-Loire for October 30, 1954, reported, as a follow-up to the observation of September 28, 1954, around 5:45 p.m., of a "flying cigar" with a red trail passing at high altitude over Chalon-sur-Saône, that there had been "credible testimonies from residents of rue des ChĂȘnes" in Montceau-les-Mines, of the "same craft" which then flew over the Mining Basin, "before disappearing from the sight of the curious onlookers."

On Thursday evening, around 5:45 p.m., a group of shopkeepers on Avenue Boucicaut and many residents living near the corner of Rue du Champ-Gaillard saw a mysterious object that they could not describe, as it was flying at a very high altitude.
Mr. Maugey, a physical education teacher, who was on his balcony and able to observe the object's movement a bit longer as it headed toward the Dheune Valley, said he believed it was a huge rocket, noting he clearly saw a long red trail likely caused by the propulsion system of the mysterious object, which some people dubbed a "flying cigar."
According to credible witnesses from Rue des ChĂȘnes, in Montceau, the same object flew over the mining basin shortly afterward before vanishing from view from the curious onlookers.

The description for the observation at Chalon-sur-Saône, very sparse, makes me think it might have been a meteor. Unfortunately, the duration of the observation is not reported.
